Post 5: Production diary

 Brainstorm ideas

Having discussed with my teacher about my idea, I wasn’t completely sure on the location of my short film that I proposed, I was thinking a bus or a train but using these would mean I have to cancel out the noise of the train completely with the voice over. My main idea was to have a lead character sitting down on his seat on the train (next to a window preferably to show the passage of time and space) and then have an inner monologue of a troubling and maybe even dangerous situation he’s involved himself in to do with maybe a drug deal, as in the journey on the train or bus is the journey to what is going to happen. Im also quite stuck on how to end the short film, I was possibly thinking that I could end it with getting g a very low angle and show him getting of the train or bus and letting the audience decide whether or not he decided to do it, or is he chose safety and good conscience. Almost like a battle of inner good and evil.

My inspiration for this idea was definitely the short film arrival, it shows a woman having an inner monologue in a coffee shop waiting for the father of their unborn child, waiting to tell him about the baby. I was trying to capture the same kind of feel as this short film clip because it shows the human emotion really well and really easily.

Structure idea 1

One long shot of trains arriving and going, then within the same shot it shows our main character come onto screen and then sitting down and panning round to show his face, this is where he puts his headphones in and it fades to black and fades back out to a wide angle shot of him sat alone with window in view to show time passage, This is where the inner monologue will start.

Possible backstory within the opening scene possible phone call with the person he is buying the drugs off.

Post 11: Costume and makeup

No makeup is needed in my film, I will only be talking about costumes and provide an example. Over the entire shoot I will only need one costume for the main character. The costume will consist of: A hoodie that is black/ navy A beanie Black cargos Black and white trainers The costume will develop and use over ear headphones to help signify the inner monologue that’s commencing.   The strangers on the train will be actual strangers, but as a backup I will bring 2 other older people in their late 20s to act as them, this way I have a safety net incase actual strangers wont work.   For the mother, It will just be anything out her wardrobe, preferably muted grey colors to go along with the dullness and grey settings.

Post 4: What I want to do and why

IDEA: My main ideas is going to follow a new comers trip on a train to collect drugs and re sell them for a profit, whilst having an inner monologue of the thoughts about what he's doing and what can happen to him and how he could ruin the lives around him. SETTING: The setting would be on a train or a bus with faint background noise of the bus and the outside cars to add a sense of realism as this kind of event occurs more often than though. It would be a trip spliced into three individual scenes on different areas on the bus/ train so it would seem like the character was restless  COSTUME: My costume is going to look like the average 17 - 25 year old dress wear to show that the character is somewhat normal but is becoming involved in crime. MAKEUP:  N/A CINEMATOGRAPHY:  My short film will consist of a lot of medium/close up shots of the male character when he is on the train or bus. This is because these scenes highlight the characters emotions, i want...
