Post 7: Audience research

 Audience research

In my eyes there should be a target audience, with an approachable yet very specific main character and he should fit the part of a normal British teenager, so he can be related to, most people I have spoken to about this have said it’s a good idea to try and relate my protagonist to the audience that its targeted at and I want to achieve it through micro elements. Using the way they dress or perhaps their character expressions, movements and speech etc. this will really help my audience see the main character as someone they could know, someone this could happen to. However making the main character a ‘typical’ teenager from 17 – 19 could come across as non relatable depending what the audiences view on the norm of what a teenager looks like, and it could come across with the wrong idea and then it becomes almost like the comedic idea of what a British teen looks like, and that is not relatable and is not the intent behind the character.

I want my character to display signs of distress to get the point of the path that he’s going down is a dangerous one and that it’s a mistake. After discussing with some of my peers they’ve said it would be a good idea to use the inner monologue to maybe create a flash back sequence towards who he would be effecting in different age ranges or perhaps who he is going to hurt around him, for example his mother, younger sibling, father his friends in his community. This could be really effective because it would portray the bigger picture whilst also displaying editing techniques,  almost like showing a butterfly effect  through the single action of a drug deal.

Overall i asked about 10 - 15 people what they thought of the idea, took their feedback and built a more solid, well rounded plan on how to film, edit and present the final film.

Post 11: Costume and makeup

No makeup is needed in my film, I will only be talking about costumes and provide an example. Over the entire shoot I will only need one costume for the main character. The costume will consist of: A hoodie that is black/ navy A beanie Black cargos Black and white trainers The costume will develop and use over ear headphones to help signify the inner monologue that’s commencing.   The strangers on the train will be actual strangers, but as a backup I will bring 2 other older people in their late 20s to act as them, this way I have a safety net incase actual strangers wont work.   For the mother, It will just be anything out her wardrobe, preferably muted grey colors to go along with the dullness and grey settings.

Post 13: Sound

Script The start of the film will be here, I wont be using the diegetic sound of the area because the wind was extremely loud on practice recording every time so instead ill use mild white noise. The heart beat will be a sound i use of YouTube link attached: Fades in from black Samuel walks into the train station, on his phone texting his friends, suddenly he receives a text that seems to put a serious expression on his face. He walks over to the benches to take a seat and wait for his train. He walks onto his train, taking a seat on a table seating area on the right hand corner of the carriage against the window, filmed using a  long cut following him from behind onto his seat stopping where the table starts. He puts his headphones on, and it fills the outside sound . Inner monologue begins “I can’t believe I’ve got myself into this.” Said Samuel in a disappointed and worried tone. “I just need to get this over with and then I can be done with it. I can’t let anyone know w...

Post 4: What I want to do and why

IDEA: My main ideas is going to follow a new comers trip on a train to collect drugs and re sell them for a profit, whilst having an inner monologue of the thoughts about what he's doing and what can happen to him and how he could ruin the lives around him. SETTING: The setting would be on a train or a bus with faint background noise of the bus and the outside cars to add a sense of realism as this kind of event occurs more often than though. It would be a trip spliced into three individual scenes on different areas on the bus/ train so it would seem like the character was restless  COSTUME: My costume is going to look like the average 17 - 25 year old dress wear to show that the character is somewhat normal but is becoming involved in crime. MAKEUP:  N/A CINEMATOGRAPHY:  My short film will consist of a lot of medium/close up shots of the male character when he is on the train or bus. This is because these scenes highlight the characters emotions, i want...
