  Narrative Equilibrium  – Annie is sitting alone in a café, waiting for the father of her baby that she’s decided she doesn’t want to keep. She orders a coffee. Disruption  – A couple walks in, holding hands, and Annie sees them, causing her to start reconsidering her choice. Recognition  – Another costumer walks in with a baby in a stroller and Annie realises that maybe she does want this child after all. Attempts to Repair  – We see the internal conflict she’s having through the train sequence and her inner monologue where we hear her weigh up the positives and negatives of her decision. New Equilibrium  – Annie orders a decaf coffee, signifying that she has changed her mind, and is joined by a stranger that can be assumed to be the father.  Lighting The lighting in this film is grey and dull, showing that the location is England, as it is known for being wet and dark.  During the train sequence, the lighting in the café shifts to darkness and ...

  Narrative Equilibrium  – Two boys are sitting in a café, one has a burger, the other just has chips. Disruption  – One boy notices that the other has a burger and begins to tell him the story. Recognition  – The boy realises that the other is implying that the boy who got stabbed the other day is in the burger. Attempts to Repair  – He spits the burger out. New Equilibrium  – He tells him it was just a joke, but the camera pans to a worker who is sharpening knives and has a smirk on his face, leaving the audience to decide for themselves if it was true or not.  The boy who was stabbed is the princess as he is the one who needs saving. The villains are the boys who stab him and come to finish him off. It may seem like the café workers are the heroes at first, but it turns out that they may also be the villains as well.  Lighting The café needs to be lit as that is the reason the boy goes in, as he knows there are people inside that could help him...

  Narrative The fly is the villain in this film from the driver’s point of view. According to Propp’s theory, the villain is usually the one who causes the disruption. However, from an audience’s point of view, the fly could be seen as the hero because it stops the criminals from getting away.  Equilibrium – The driver is waiting for the criminals to return from the bank so they can make a quick getaway. Disruption – The fly appears on his windshield. Recognition – He realises the fly is not gone and he wants to get rid of it. Attempts to Repair – He tries to squash it and catch it in a cup. He shoots at it which results in him destroying the car. New Equilibrium – The car is ruined and the police are coming. The fly is still alive.  Lighting The film uses natural lighting as it is set outside and is set in the day time. The lighting is dull because it is a cloudy day.   Narrative Equilibrium – Three guys are sitting on a wall waiting for their friend. Disruption – A man walks past wearing skinny jeans that catches all their attentions. Joseph remarks on how they don’t wear jeans like that. Recognition – Tyrone tells them he needs five more minutes. Attempts to Repair – Marcus explains to them why they don’t and they begin to talk about girls and the population. New Equilibrium – They notice a guy with a tight shirt and Joseph asks why they don’t wear shirts like that. Marcus starts to explain but the other two shut him up. They are still waiting.  The lighting is all natural. It is dull and grey as it’s a cold day in England and they are outside. Costume, Hair and Makeup The costumes are casual hoodies and jeans, baggy. The two guys walking past are wearing skinny jeans and tight shirts, very different to the three protagonists to create a notable contrast that can be talked about. For the 8th season of the UKTV (soon to be moving to channel 4) show Taskmaster, the contestants had to pass a beach ball the most distance through filming it and using a match-on-action shot to seem as if they are passing the ball to each other.

For this task, we had to create a minute long montage of someone missing a bus, waiting for it and then either getting the next one or missing the second bus. We used lots of jump cuts to create the montage effect. Here is the video we created:
