Bus stop Montage

For this task, we had to create a minute long montage of someone missing a bus, waiting for it and then either getting the next one or missing the second bus. We used lots of jump cuts to create the montage effect.

Post 5: Production diary

  Brainstorm ideas Having discussed with my teacher about my idea, I wasn’t completely sure on the location of my short film that I proposed, I was thinking a bus or a train but using these would mean I have to cancel out the noise of the train completely with the voice over. My main idea was to have a lead character sitting down on his seat on the train (next to a window preferably to show the passage of time and space) and then have an inner monologue of a troubling and maybe even dangerous situation he’s involved himself in to do with maybe a drug deal, as in the journey on the train or bus is the journey to what is going to happen. Im also quite stuck on how to end the short film, I was possibly thinking that I could end it with getting g a very low angle and show him getting of the train or bus and letting the audience decide whether or not he decided to do it, or is he chose safety and good conscience. Narrative The film has a linear narrative, but the events aren’t in chronological order, so the audience see the events in reverse. It is very hard to apply narrative theories, as we don’t get to see any characters in detail or know their personalities, as the story is not about character development, but telling a true story to educate an audience.  11:45PM – Night time on the street 7:30PM – A couple parks on the pavement and gets out to spot a bunch of flowers on the other side of the road. 4:20PM – A man is pressure washing the road and a woman is talking to him. We see that it was probably blood. 3:00PM – A removal van is taking a car away. It cuts to stills of clothes in evidence bags. 12:30PM – Police take the body. 9:50AM – Forensics are taking pictures of the body. Cuts to stills of possessions in evidence bags. 8:00AM – We see the body lying on the street. 7:45AM – The body hasn’t been found yet. Fly

  Narrative The fly is the villain in this film from the driver’s point of view. According to Propp’s theory, the villain is usually the one who causes the disruption. However, from an audience’s point of view, the fly could be seen as the hero because it stops the criminals from getting away.  Equilibrium – The driver is waiting for the criminals to return from the bank so they can make a quick getaway. Disruption – The fly appears on his windshield. Recognition – He realises the fly is not gone and he wants to get rid of it. Attempts to Repair – He tries to squash it and catch it in a cup. He shoots at it which results in him destroying the car. New Equilibrium – The car is ruined and the police are coming. The fly is still alive.  Lighting The film uses natural lighting as it is set outside and is set in the day time. The lighting is dull because it is a cloudy day.
